Frequently Asked Questions
Submitting Assignments to Teachers
If a teacher has assigned a feature like a movie, quiz, or Challenge to a student, the student’s results are submitted automatically when the student completes the feature.
For other features, such as Make-a-Map, Make-a-Movie, and Creative Coding, students will need to click Submit to Teacher after completion.
If a student needs to redo any part of an assignment, the teacher can re-assign that feature to the student.
If a student needs to redo any part of a submitted Make-a-Map, Make-a-Movie, or Creative Coding project, the teacher can always re-assign that feature to the student or the student can go to their projects folder in their student dashboard and click on the project they would like to resubmit.
If they scroll down there should be an Edit button where they can create a copy of their submitted work and resubmit to your class.
After clicking the Edit button, a pop-up should appear that says "You have already submitted this! To keep working on it, make a copy."
Click Copy and this will create a copy of the assignment that they can make sure to submit to your class.
Submitting Unassigned Work to Teachers
Students can submit quizzes, concept maps, coding projects, and more that have not been directly assigned to them. After they complete their work, they should:
- Click Submit or Submit to Teacher.
- Select the class associated with the work.
- Click Submit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I automatically see my students' results?
Movies, Quizzes, Challenge, and Related Reading will be automatically submitted to the assignment if they’ve been assigned. Related Reading, Belly Up (BrainPOP Jr.), and games will be automatically marked as completed after the student is on the feature for 30 seconds. For other features, such as Make-a-Map or Creative Coding, or for any unassigned work, students can submit by clicking Submit or Submit to Teacher.
Can students save and return to features before submitting them to teachers?
Some features can be saved and edited later. On BrainPOP, Make-a-Map, Make-a-Movie, Creative Coding, Worksheet, Vocabulary, and Graphic Organizer can be saved and edited later: On BrainPOP Jr., Write About It, Draw About It, Word Play, and Make-a-Map can be saved and returned to later. On BrainPOP ELL, the Placement Test, Write It, Word Play, and Make-a-Map can be saved and edited later. If a student is not yet ready to submit their work, they can return to it by finding it in their timeline or on their Assignments page and submitting from there.
Students can submit creative projects (Make-a-Map, Make-a-Movie, Creative Coding) from their Timeline by clicking View Work to open a specific activity. From there, they can click Submit to Teacher.
For other activities, including quizzes, Challenges, and games with SnapThought, students cannot save and continue or edit their work. They will have to finish their work in one session.
How can my students re-take a feature they scored poorly on?
While you cannot erase a student's grade, there are two recommended ways to have students "redo" work that has been assigned to them:
- Teachers can create a new assignment consisting of just the features that have to be done over and expand the Assign to specific students list to de-select any students that do not need a redo, then assign. (We advise titling this assignment something different to note it's a do-over.)
- Students can navigate to the feature independently, complete the work, and submit it to your class. This work is considered a "free submit" and will be found in your class by sorting work by Free Submits rather than by Assignments.
My student submitted their work to me, but I can't find it. Where is it?
First, we advise checking in the Free Submits for your class. Go to the class in your Dashboard and change the filter from Assignments to Free Submits. Sometimes, students submit their work this way, rather than through the assignment itself.
If you're still not able to to find it, check that the student has submitted their work to the right place. Go to their class in your Dashboard, click View Students, and click the student's name. This will bring you to a view of their Dashboard and their Timeline. Under Timeline, you can view all work a student has completed, whether it was submitted or not. Here, you can search for any missing assignment features. If it was submitted to a class, it will say so, as well as which class it was submitted to. If not, there will be no submission listed.
