Changing Integrations
You may be considering changing integrations if your current SSO solution is no longer available to you, or if you're moving towards a new platform that you'd like to use to access BrainPOP.
Before choosing a new integration, we recommend comparing the available features across the integrations we offer. You can find a comparison of the features available in different integrations and some best practices for choosing in this article: Getting Started with Integrations
In the sections below, we outline the necessary considerations to be aware of before changing integrations. Given these steps may be disruptive to teachers and students use of the product during the school year, we recommend switching integrations at a time of year that will be least disruptive for teachers and students, such as summer or winter break.
Matching Teacher and Student Accounts
If teacher accounts have been created with one integration, they can be matched to the new integration by their email address as long as they still match. However, the teacher may lose their rosters and assignment data.
Because we only collect very limited student data, we cannot match existing rosters or student accounts created with one SSO solution to a different SSO solution.
Clearing Student Data
If you decide to choose one of our integrations that offer global account provisioning and automatic nightly syncs, we strongly recommend that you clear previous student accounts from your school or district’s BrainPOP account(s) in advance of the change.
Clearing this data is not required, but it will significantly reduce the possibility of duplicate student accounts. When setting up Clever or Classlink/OneRoster API integrations, we'll offer you the option to clear student data.
Clearing student data will clear the following categories of information:
- Student accounts
- Class rosters
- Teachers's assignments
- Student projects
- Student artifacts
- Student activity and login counts
- Teacher activity and login counts
The following types of data will not be removed:
- Teacher accounts
- Teacher-created projects (Make-a-Map, Make-a-Movie, Creative Coding)
Because clearing data removes some projects, activity, and login data, we also recommend generating a detailed usage report before clearing student data. You can generate one using the Admin Dashboard, or ask us to generate one for you.
Deactivating an Existing Integration
If you choose to change integrations, we recommend that you deactivate your existing integration. This will remove the possibility that your teachers and students create duplicate accounts. This article walks you through the steps to deactivate an existing integration.
